A bathroom company that prices the room first
Bathroom Renovation NZ measures your bathroom, draws it to scale and prices every line for a fee that is credited to the job. Then it runs the renovation under one contract, with a partner crew doing the strip-out, waterproofing and tiling, and a licensed plumber and registered electrician doing the restricted work.
Why the visit is not free
Every bathroom company we looked at in New Zealand offers a free consultation. That is not generosity, it is a sales call with its cost in the job price, and the plan that comes out of it belongs to the company that did it. If you decide to go elsewhere, you leave with nothing.
Ours costs $395 incl. GST and produces a document set that is yours: a scaled plan of the room now and as proposed, a line-item budget range, a consent check with the Building Act clause named, and a written scope saying which trade does what. Build with us and the fee comes off the job in full. Take it to someone else and you keep the work you paid for.
That is the whole positioning. It is contrarian in this market, and it is the reason we can spend 60 to 75 minutes in a bathroom with a tape and a moisture meter instead of ten minutes with a clipboard.
How partners are chosen
By licence, by records and by insurance, in that order. A plumber has to be authorised under the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006 and checkable on the PGDB register. An electrician has to be registered with the EWRB and issue a certificate of compliance. A bathroom crew has to tell us which membrane system it uses, show that its applicators are trained in that system, and agree to photograph every coat before it is covered. Everyone supplies an insurance certificate.
We do not run a directory and we do not sell leads. Nobody pays for placement here, because there is no placement to buy. Trades who want subcontract work can apply, and applying does not get you listed on this site.
What we do not have
No reviews, no ratings, no star count, no job count, no years trading, no trade association memberships and no guarantee of our own. Not because they would not help, but because we have none of them yet and inventing them is the thing that makes a website worthless.
There is no team page and no founder photograph. The trading name is the operator, the article author on every guide is the organisation, and the people who will actually be in your bathroom are the partner crew, who get named in your contract when there is one.
There are also no “before and after” galleries. The plan drawings on this site are labelled as worked examples. Project photographs go up when there are real jobs, with the owner's permission, and not before.
Where the numbers come from
Two published cost sources, CheckMyBuilder and Superior Renovations, both read in full and both linked wherever they are used, with their GST status and the date we read them. The rules come from the Building Act on legislation.govt.nz, an MBIE determination, the PGDB, the EWRB, WorkSafe and Tenancy Services.
Where a claim had no source we could read, it was dropped rather than softened. Those are listed on the editorial policy page.
Where we are up to
Not taking payments. We contract a bathroom crew, a licensed plumber and a registered electrician in an area before we sell a visit there, and that is not done yet anywhere. Until it is, every button on this site joins a waitlist and nothing is charged. The full list of what has to be true first.
